Fuel pump

Fuel pump wont pump but when i hit the fuel tank
it comes on. Is there a short in the fuel pump or
could there be a bunch of gunt in the filteron the
pump

That is usually a sign of a bad fuel pump. With engine cranking check voltage and ground at fuel pump connector, gray wire should be voltage and black wire is ground. If good voltage and ground with no fuel pump action, suspect the fuel pump. The pump assembly usually has a sock filter on it, you can check that. With the pump out, you can drag your hand on the inside bottom of tank, if nasty, clean out the tank. There is also the inline fuel filter, change that also.
