The ball joints (upper and lower), idler arm, and pitman arm are all wear items. Check all of those for play and replace if play is present. If you still have play, it's probably the rubber rag joint on the steering shaft (by the steering box) or the box itself.
ok thanks I checked the ball-jionts tie rod ends etc.. they seem find I feel a little play on the gram arm where it goen into the steering box, and I mean a little play. Isn't that normal though? Seems that most vehicles I have had move a bit at that joint. Is there an adjustment for gear load I should mess wiht or just replace it?

I'm not sure what year they started. but mine (97) has an adjustment on the top of the gearbox. it has a set screw in the middle of the big nut. If you loosen the set screw you can turn the big nut left or right to take some of the play out of the steering. Becarfull not to turn it too far. maybe a 1/4 turn in either direction.
