Intermittent Starting issues with 2007 Toyota Camry LE (4 Cylinder, 2.4 Liter Engine)

Asked by apatel5800 Dec 06, 2016 at 11:39 AM about the 2007 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have intermittent start up problem with my 2007 Toyota Camry LE (2.4 Liter
4 Cylinder Engine). If I drive the car for long time, and happened to turn off
the car and then immediately attempt to start the car, it seems the problem
with start up happens more frequently. I would then let  open the hood and
let the car maybe cool down for 10-15 mins and then typically it would start.
This happened more often in warmer summer weather but also happened
recently when weather was in 50s. So far I've recently changed spark plugs
(all 4) and starter.  Previously in the last 2 years, I've changed both oxygen
sensors and catalytic converter.  About 3 years ago, the entire engine
needed to be rebuilt due to issues with 2007 Toyota Camry burning more
motor oil, although Toyota to this day claims this is normal (find it really hard
to believe) eventhough there's  recall out there for this.

Is it possible the issue could be something in the fuel line such as fuel
pump, fuel pump relay or fuel filer?  I was thinking of taking the car to Toyota
dealership and pay them to run the diagnostics, however I'm not familiar
enough to know if the issue is not occurring at that time, their diagnostics
system will be able to determine the root cause of this issue.

Any warning lights ON or Flashing? What is the mileage. This "start-up" problem. Do you mean the Engine will not CRANK OVER...like the Battery is dead.....or....the Engine cranks over well...but...the Engine will not fire up(start)?

apatel....sounds like we have the same problem. I am leaning towards a fuel pump issue. If wasy enough to change out I will likely go that route. Have you solved your issue since the original post??

Jeff. What is your make model year and engine type? Any warning lights ON or Flashing? If you folks suspect a bad fuel pump...the next time she will not Start( Fire UP)....smack the bottom of the fuel tank with the palm of your hand. If she starts right up...you most likely have a bad FP.

Realize this is an older post but I'd like to offer my suggestion, fuel injector/s is possible to stick open causing a flooded cylinder. Causing hard start after warm, engine miss, oxygen sensors. Just a reminder to those that don't know, if you believe you have a flooded cylinder condition if you keep your gas pedal all the way to the floor it shuts off all injectors while cranking it will burn off excess gas in cylinders then let off gas pedal after 15 to 30 seconds may help at start up, try fuel injection cleaner first before trip to the repair shop.
