Gmc transfercase

I have a 2006 gmc 4x4 electronic. Truck will be driving
around 40 mph suddenly it just stops moving it revs up but
won't move if I try putting it into park there's a grinding nice.
I put it on 4HI and back to 2WD and it works good again but
it won't take long to do same. What could it be.

That would cause the truck to stop pulling pretty much like it goes into neutral while running still rev up but won't move

Thanks would you recommend rebuilding the transfercase or just replacing the part
