HELPS PLEASE? SO MANY CODES, BUT CAR DRIVES PERFECT!
Asked by pavelrebwar2009 Feb 27, 2013 at 11:22 PM about the 2002 Jaguar X-TYPE 2.5L AWD
Question type: General
Car drives ok no problems but one very cold morning i started the car and it was almost dieing
out like it might needed sparkplugs or a tune up, but i noticed white smoke that smelled like oil or
coolant the smoke lasted no longer then 10 seconds but it was bad car was shaking and engine
light was flashing but when the 10 seconds ended the engine light stopped and the car ran fine.
I changed my coolant level and it was ok , checked my oil it was full, Every morning when i do
start it , it starts ok no problems like that one time expect very cold mornings but nothing like that
one day. When i scanned car to see what codes where coming up .. cylinders 1,3,5 were
misfiring and random misfire , also got a catalytic converter , and intake manifold . BUT THE
CAR drives ok, only thing i can say is a hear a whistling sound when down shifting or
accelerating. I bought the car at 210 KM and its now at 235 KM , what do you guys think the
problem is ? why are so many codes coming up?

white smoke=very bad....coolant in the combustion chamber....doesn't belong...buggin the sensors...motor cracked.
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
whistling sound=leaking air to combustion chambers

car drives perfect expect for that white smoke in the mornings.

and you don't have to refill the coolant every few minutes-
pavelrebwar2009 answered 11 years ago
and the coolant doesnt go anywhere? its still full

reset your trouble codes then. and drive on driver. Think it might be as simple as disconnecting and reconnectiong the battery,,,will have to research.

i rested the codes came back up in few hours, havent disconnected the battery yet, im thinking spark plugs maybe or intake manifold , thanks for your help

did we ever bother to find out what these trouble codes were? or just drive this car and no worries?
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
yeah...spark plugs would not drive the light, but Oxygen sensors and catalytic converter and evaporative emissions and CO out the tailpipe will.
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
yeah, fixing the intake would cure your whistling. this is a Jaguar...make friends with your mechanic...then you can put on your 'motoring gloves'~
If it's driving OK and not throwing codes any more, just drive the car. It sounds like a slug of liquid passed through and that gave you the multiple misfire and cat converter codes. Check with other owners on a Jag forum to find out what the whistling sound is.
What's the normal, everyday speed you're driving, like just around town or interstate driving? I agree with Tenspeed. Sometimes they need abit of a romp on interstate to clear out any buildup but it sounds like it already passed it.

it drives perfect , i drive around the city on highways no misfrings when drivng , but everymorning white smoke comes out for bout 10 to 20 seconds more like pumpin white smoking ones it clears car sounds ok, only two guesses are still intake manifold or i need a new cat ?
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
...well you have to ask yourself, 'what would cause white smoke' and the answer has to be coolant...so the question remains, how did that coolant get into the combustion chambers...and can think of only an unsavory answer, could range from blown headgasket... to cracked block. We should start with the headgasket if your mech man has nothin' to do with the weekend. Pullin the head off will reveal what is really happening here-
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
that would give your mech man an opportunity to change out the intake gasket and stop your whistling (dixie).
Hey I need help my 2003 jaguar x type has 18 codes every time even after I clear them and the check engine light is always on and the abs what should I look for??
