Question type: General

How many miles on Average should you expect a 2004 Jaguar x-type 3.0 that
is very well maintained to last?  My daughter's car was in excellent condition
inside and out, well maintained , leather seats, sunroof, the whole package
It had 82,000 miles.  We took it to the dealer and 'somehow' the wrong fluid
was put into the brake system.  This destroyed the engine, the braking system
and basically anything it touched.  My insurance compnay Totalled the car and
offered $3800. (We had just put in $4500 in two previous months for upkeep.
I'm furious.  This is a car that I thing would have laster her thru nursing school
and beyond with the TLC she always gave it.  We are now left with $3800
which will get us NOWHERE for a reliable sustainable car.  How many mileage
would be normal for a car such as this that is excellently maintained?

Putting the wrong fluid in the brake reservoir would not destroy the engine. A good flush would have fixed it and maybe some parts. But you got your settlement. Ed is right, a use Jag would have cost her a fortune to maintain.
