2004 X type Jaguar keeps going into limp mode

While driving down the hwy @ 70 mph it goes into limp mode and just idles

have the same problem, but in your case it most likely is the e t c electronic throttle control, sending sensor located at throttle pedal ,

yes you would need the correct part to match the model and year of that car
