Asked by aap01 Jun 23, 2015 at 04:36 PM about the 2006 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The car monitor said check catalytic converter. It was skipping at slow speeds. brought to a Jag dealer and they had to take most of the engine apart before physically seeing the timing chain skip. Needs to replace that and tension for $4,500 plus clean out engine from oil sludge. Is this in the ball park?

It has two on the 3.0 . $5,639 both. One $2864. No typo. And that's just for tensioner, not including new chain(s) https://www.automd.com/iq/quote-details/?quote_id=2960826

I was a Jag dealer in the 60's and there is not a lot of difference in the twin cam design of then and now. I would guess in todays prices anything under $6000 would be a fair price if the workmanship is excellent.
