2006 Mercury Mariner

Asked by Peter Jan 21, 2023 at 11:45 PM about the 2006 Mercury Mariner Luxury AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid 2.3L 8th digit of VIN is H. AWD. The
chassis control computer/box  6E6T-14B476-DH is bad. The guy working on
it is saying that I cannot put another chassis control box with the same
number but different last two digits in this vehicle. He said they are not
reprogrammable. I can't remember if its a premier or luxury AWD. But it is an
AWD Hybrid. VIN: 4M2CU98H06KJ14670. Ford does not make this part any
more. My question is, can I swap out the  6E6T-14B476-DH for  6E6T-
14B476-EA or  6E6T-14B476-DG?

I am in the same boat as far as the part that went bad. Being that the part is the Smart Junction Box (mostly called on the internet a "cabin fuse box") is essential for the onboard computer, Not getting it to work at all is a death sentence. The electrical components managed by the fuse box would include the options that you have on your car. I would say yes it would have to be the same. I found a used one for my car, but it too didn't work and the mechanic doesn't want to try anymore. Anyway, you should check ebay, but be careful to ensure the part you are getting is from a hybrid (you know to match your car, it's just that a lot of them aren't from hybrids which means the options won't match no matter what).

One last thing: This part is the literal Achilles heal of the car. I have been unable to get a replacement even going through salvage yards online. With it malfunctioning, it is taking away the functions of the car. First lost the ability to open my car's front door remotely but nothing is wrong with the parts. Then it's the tire pressure signal is not being received despite nothing wrong with the tire pressure sensors on 4 tires. While all of this is still going on, it's now the ABS (antilock system) and the Brakes (turns brakes into manual brakes as in without power) when nothing is at issue. I can clear the faults to get some driving time, but things keep breaking down more quickly (i.e., throwing faults quicker than the last time it took to throw the same fault). My car is otherwise in great condition and I had no intention of replacing it, but even with used parts to replace the cabin fuse box (SJB), I have been unable to get past this problem. :-(
