Coolant blowing out of filler cap

Asked by tonyw204 May 15, 2011 at 09:05 AM about the 2000 Saab 9-3 SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 9-5 SE Turbo suddenly overheated and blasted coolant out of the expansion
box filler cap accompanied by an alarm and sid display to refill coolant fluid. I
stopped and raised the bonnet to find coolant level up to cap level and coolant all
over the engine compartment. The top hose from head to radiator was flat. My
immediate thought was water pump failure. I refilled tank to correct level and next
time of driving the same occured. Any suggestions most gratefully received.

The same thing just happened to my 9-3, after spending a pile of money to replace the fan and the temp gage. They found out that the res cap needed to be replaced and the flat hose (which was blocking the coolant from the rest of the system. Best bet look to see if the cap is in good condition and replace the flat hose
