When it's below zero outside, my 2002 Saab 9-3
Convertible blows cold air (feels like air
conditioning air, not outside air) for about 40
minutes from the defroster only.  Vent and feet air
blows hot.  As soon as you put it back on
defroster, it immiately blows cold air.  After about
15 minutes, it blows warm air for about 5 seconds,
them back to cold.  It may do this every minute for
about 4 or 5 times before it blows hot air
constantly.   I'm thinking it may be a  bad relay
switch, but not sure which one it may be.  
Dealership is confused because by the time I get
there, it's working fine.  Me too!

Thermostat is fine. Looked on another sight and I'll have the dealership push the Auto and Off buttons at the same time to see if their are any codes that come up. Then I'll have them check the actuator motor for the defroster. Supposed to be -15 tomorrow morning so it should happen again for them if they actually do it. Cars been in the shop for almost 3 weeks now. Lost all faith in dealership mechanics!!! Not the first time i've been tested on my ability to know certain facts about my Saab! They tried to sell me a $500 motor for the conv. top, plus labor ? only to tell them (the specialist at Saab) that you need to have the key turned on to put the top down! I should be a mechanic!!!! I think it's outside air not the AC.

Actuator motor if faulty usually freezes in Open. Position and therefore Cold Air flows in from outside the vehicle. One must remove glove box to get access to the dam thing. Not cheap but still available. Check EEuro Site. Good luck RJJ
