97 legacy no crank, no start

Asked by Mr_E_Mushroom Feb 11, 2021 at 08:35 PM about the 1997 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 97 legacy which I recently purchased. I tried to start it in fairly cold
weather (-30 c) to bring into shop to change out the clutch. When cranking to
start the battery went dead and shorted out, it almost started before battery
died. I replaced the battery and had no crank, I bypassed clutch safety
switch thinking it might be that, but still nothing. I jumped the starter and got
it to turn over but no start. I have spark but no fuel pump, checked all the
fuses and they were good. Also since the no start the key fab marker lights
blink on and off. I also checked for engine codes and had none, I also
plugged it in. lol  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found the problem was with an after market alarm system and fab system that was installed that malfunctioned when my battery expired. I pulled the fuses for both and it started. I reinstalled the fab fuse after I got it running so I wouldn't get locked out as the ignition key was different then the door key.
