HI again. I was hoping someone could lead me in the right direction on a code scanner. Which one would be the most compatible for a 1997 subaru legacy outback 2.5 dohc. I'd like to be able to see most systems throughout the car. Any ideas please. Thanks

96+ is OBDII, you don't mention what country you are in, I believe Australia may have a different ISO protocol for that year than the US, a 14-pin port vs 16 pin. If in the US you should have no problem with any OBDII scanner. You can get pretty cheap with ones from Harbor Freight or Walmart, they scan and decipher codes, the more expensive ones can clear codes and do resets. You can also look on Amazon, there are now adapters that let you hook up a smart phone for basic OBD functions that cost under $20. (work with bluetooth, android, etc.) Since your budget is $100 you should be able to get a pretty decent one, like one from Autel or Actron, that can read/clear ABS and SRS (airbag) codes as well.
