what does the v stand for in my v2500 chevy suburban

I am not sure it means anything. GM change the C/K to R and V to differentiate the Suburban from the pickups.

They are Chevy's letter code to denote two or four wheel drive. C= 2wd. K=4wd. It represents the fifth digit in the VIN number. In early 87 Chevy began building the new fourth generation trucks, which started coming off the assembly line, right along side the third generation trucks. The new trucks were to keep the C/K identifiers. So the old design trucks got switched to R and V. R= 2wd and V=4wd. this lasted from 1987 to 1990 But 1 ton early design cab and chassis trucks kept the R/V code till the end of 1991. in 1999 gm Killed the C/K codes and went with silverado Chevy and Sierra, GMC
