2006 Infiniti G35 coupe won't start, does not respond to a jump

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I'm having random circumstances where I'm
stuck in a parking lot because my Infiniti G35 will
not start. 80% of the time it fires right up as soon
as the jumper cables are attached. But the last
few times, it will not respond to the jump, even
when the cables are left on the other battery
charging for about 10 to 15 minutes. When I turn
the key, MOST of these times, I hear a click.
Lights are all coming on, warning sounds are
present. I had the battery tested and the
diagnosis came back strong. Could this be a
battery issue where it only charges
intermittently? I just bought the car 10 mo ago,
but it has over 125,000 miles on it as we speak.
Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions would be
GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'm in the middle of
moving and my moving truck is sitting on the
other side of Austin, full of my stuff, and should
have been returned 4 hrs ago.
Thanks in advance!!!

Clean the battery terminals and cable ends. The problem is almost certainly the battery and/or a bad connection.

It is possible that the starter is having some issues.

WOW! Thanks for your timely responses.firebird338, the battery was in the car. full_ of_regrets, battery terminals are clean: no corrosion Rowefast, I initially thought the same thing. However, would I still be hearing a "click" when I turn the key if it was the starter? THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!!

Yes you would, that would be the solenoid trying to engage the starter, but there could be a problem with the brushes, or bushings. You can take it off and have it tested.

You can try tapping on the starter with a hammer and try starting vehicle at the same time if vehicle starts replace starter.

Also would suggest what Regrets suggested battery terminals may look good on the outside but in between the terminal and the post may be corroded not letting get good connection.

Thanks so much. I will take all of your suggestions. However, I have to find a hammer first. lol I'm sitting in a parking lot and my entire house is loaded into a moving truck so I'm very limited as to what resources I have. So overall, you all don't think it's an issue with my battery bit rather the starter? firebird338, should the battery have been off when they treated it?

Not really only asked because if you had taken it out to get tested you would had most likely have cleaned the battery terminals before you put them back on.

Gotcha. Thank you very much!!!! Oh my, I just reread a portion of what I wrote last night and I need to apologize for not proofreading the text, before sending it. I'm just glad you all were able to decipher what I was trying to say. And for the record, my car has not moved from the parking lot at Sonic....I'm trying to decide what is more important. My car, or finding a home......lol
