Let me know if you find how to fix this? Mine does the same thing. Has something to do with the Immobilizer (Anti Theft). Have heard one guy say a relay on his headlight was bad, so it wouldn't let his car start. But I think the red flashing light near shifter is an immobilizer problem. Please let me know if you are able to repair? Thanks. 2FreeEng@gmail.com

Turn key on... Watch the little blinking light... After sixty seconds, it will stop blinking for 2.5 seconds... Then it will blink a number of times, count those blinks...The light will stop blinking at you for 1 second... Then it will blink a number of times, count those blinks... This is the code set in your PATS... GOOGLE: PATS system diagnostic flow chart-xtype.uk...........

So sorry I didn't start reading CarGugus until today, Sept. 7, 2020... I wish I could have been more on time to help, as I'm am just now going through these same problems on a 2004 x type myself, trying to find out as much as I can via the internet... I promise I will post the solution when I come to it... I wish you had posted the solution to your PATS problem when and if your solution was found, as I would be that much closer to finding my own... Thank you, Alzheimer Creosote... sangfroidlemur@gmail.com
