AC question for 2007 Merc Milan, short trips AC blows cold, longer trips 1-2 hours AC works great for a while, the stops blowing cold and blows hot. If I cut the unit completely off, still driving, in 15-20 minutes, turn unit back on to AC, bingo, works great again for 1-2 hours. Of course, when taken to Mercury Dealer, they can't find a problem, it's working great, "if it anit broke we cant fix it". Yep, I know. Only does this on 1-2 hour trips. Help ! Was told it is a blower door problem. However, I hear water/ice sounds when turned off. Is it freezing up? Blower door? Help needed.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

short trips AC works great, longer trips on road trip 1-2 hours, blows cold then
all of a sudden blows hot.  I have found through trial and arrow while driving
same trip, shut off unit completely for 15-20 minutes, then turn AC back on
and bingo, blows cold again for another 1 hour or so then repeats.  Have been
told might be a blower door problem. However when off, we hear water/ice
noise, gurgleing noise, wonder if unit is freezing up? Repair shop added 1 liter
of freon, thought was fixed but last hour of trip, repeated problem.  Help !

Probably nothing wrong with the system, it is just icing over in high humidity. The longer you drive, the more ice you make. You can hear it crackle, snap and gurgle while it thaws out. Parked overnight, put a cake pan under the car, under the water drip, passenger side and see just how much accumulated ice melted to water. Okay, the best way to prevent freezing over, blocking your air flow, is to run fan faster and don't set controls for "Max A/C". Don't set for recycled air. I see a lot of A/C complaints during this hot humid Summer. PS> Don't run over your Wife's cake pan.
