David, the question is about a 79 Buick Regal. There is NO OBD 2 connector on a 79. In Canada, there was no diagnostic port at all, since our cars had carburetors. Even our 89s had OBD1 ports, not 2, and they were under the dash, to the right of the steering column.

What does the "Engine Light" indicator mean? I remember the "Oil" idiot light that replaced the gauge and told you that your engine was destroyed.

If I am remembering the dash properly, there is an 'engine' light, but no temp or hot light, nor is there an oil light. The 'engine' light replaces both of these. So, when that light is on, either there is insufficient oil pressure or the engine is running hot. In either case, the engine needs to be shut off as quickly as possible.

I agree Michael, if it's not too late already. I also remember those lights that when they came on it WAS too late. By the time they lit up you have been driving with no oil pressure for several minutes/miles
