EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculate. The EGR introduces exhaust into the combustion process to lower combustion temperatures which reduces detonation and pinging and reduces NOX gases. It will not cause engine to overheat, or affect the fuel injectors. It can cause an engine to run rough and possibly stall.
