Fuel pump
My car was making an odd unpleasant low pitched whining/humming sound...started with
the kind of whining a car makes when low on power steering fluid. Just started in the last
day or two. Took to toyota dealer and was told I needed a new fuel pump...$1100. They
told me how unusual this was for a 2008 with 85000 miles, and that it was a lifetime
pump, not meant to have to be replaced, which is why it is so costly to replace it.
Mechanic came out for about 30 seconds and made this diagnosis on my highlander.
When I got home my husband reminded me that he had to have the fuel pump replaced
on his tundra with 120,000 miles. Should I get a second opinion?
