I believe there's a chip in the key that "talks" to the anti theft system. To find out for sure, take your key to any national hardware store that cuts keys and have them test it. If you only have one key and it has a chip get a second one ASAP! You're going to thank me if you ever lose the original key or the chip dies.
Easy way to find out lock the doors using the key roll down driver window wait 5 min and reach in and unlock the door. No alarm, sad panda, if it tells on you yeaa!
