Bucking After I Fill Up With Gas.
Asked by rosec679 Jan 16, 2015 at 10:49 AM about the 2008 Jeep Patriot Limited 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot that I purchased used 2 months ago. Every single time I put gas in it, it runs a very short distance from the gas station and starts to buck and jolt like it wants to shut off. After that, every time, it does not happen again until I fill up my tank. I make sure I close the gas cap nice and tight. Does it happened to have anything with the gas vapors or maybe I need some dry gas?

I found some information on this. It is a Jeep/Chrysler issue that is gaining notice. I am re-posting the webpage that I located. Link will be at the end: The problem is the vapor/liquid separator valve located at the top of the fuel tank. The valve is designed to prevent liquid fuel from entering the charcoal canister/emissions system. When the valve fails, liquid gas can enter the line and fill the charcoal canister. After refueling the PCM on the vehicle detects a change in fuel level. Then, when the engine meets certain temperature and driving criteria, the PCM issues a purge command to the charcoal canister to remove the stored gas vapors. It’s at that point that all the liquid gas in the line gets sucked into the charcoal canister. The PCM expects to see gas vapors entering the intake manifold and it is prepared to adjust air/fuel mixtures to compensate. However, it is not prepared to see liquid gas coming into the intake. That’s what causes the engine to stall. Unfortunately, the ONLY fix is to replace the entire gas tank. Chrysler does NOT sell the vapor/liquid valve as a separate unit. Once the tank is replaced and the charcoal canister purged, the problem goes away. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Chrysler-Repair-807/f/stalling-refueling.htm
Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast. I'll have to check my warranty but I'm such this is not covered.
I also bought a 2008 Jeep Patriot 2 months ago and the Jeep stalled after filling it with gas. I called the dealer and he said to put dry gas in the tank and stalling haven't happen again for a few week. Just a few days ago, after filling up with gas the Jeep stalled again. I read in the Jeep Patriot forum that don't fill the tank all the way and the car will be fine. I will try that and see if it helps.
Thanks for your comments. I will try your suggestion. I'm heading to Atlantic City in a few hours. I'll just put 20.00 in on my way home and see if that works. I really don't want anything to happen on the AC Expressway. I'll keep you posted.
Well, you got it right. I put in 15.00 which took it to 3/4 tank and it worked. Thanks for your comments. Hopefully it solved my problem.
That's great!! I got my mechanic to fill up the tank so he can see first hand as to what's wrong with it. He finally found the problem. Mark who answered your question a few days ago got it right . The problem is from the Fuel Tank Rollover valve. Unfortunately, the whole tank has to be replaced. This will cost around 1,250 which I don't have the money for. We called the dealer and he said he may be able to replace it for us for $600 since we bought the jeep in November and this issue is not covered under warranty. I think I will just not fill the tank all the way so I don't have to spend the money to fix it.

Just happened to me with 2007 Patriot Very dangerous as steering wheel locked when it stalled. Need to recall before someone's killed
I haven't fill the tank all the way since the incident and it's been fine so far. It's a cheap workaround. Hopefully it works out for you. I've already reported this to the NHTSA but I don't think there are too many people reporting it so it fell off the radar.
Well, believe it or not, but I just bought a new gas cap and I can finally fill my tank and have not had trouble for over a month. Go figure.

My wife just filled up the gas tank to her 2007 Patriot today. It stalled right after and steering wheel locked too.
patriot2008owner answered 9 years ago
I have been experiencing the exact same problem - it occurs within driving 1-2 miles from the gas station about 95% of the time after a fill-up.
Patriotscare answered 9 years ago
I just had this happen. Filled up with gas and Jeep Patriot stalled in heavy traffic. Lucky I was nit hit. When will NHTSA do something? This is dangerous
Same problem here Jeep dealer is replacing the roll over valve in mine today lucky to have bought a extended warranty. Seems to be a known issue they were not surprised, charcoal canister was full of gas. Keep filing NHTSA reports sooner or later they will notice. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

This has been happening to my 2011 Jeep Compass. After a fill up it stalls out, power steering goes out, and other times it sputters and is a terrible experience.
My son's 2007 Jeep compass 4 cylinder started doing this 8 months ago. He has done his best to fill and wait for it to stop shutting down. And afterwards till the tank is empty there is no stalling. GOOD NEWS, the check engine light went on, first time for this, we visited Autozone and got a free diagnostic check. They confirmed that it needs a fuel vapor leak detection pump. This part costs $14.99 plus tax , Autozone part number ESM1001. It is easy to install, it is located on drivers side, under car, back corner and is disconnected by pulling hose off, wire clip with regular screw driver, and twisting the pump counterclockwise, installation of new one is reverse order. Once installed the check engine light went off. He recently filled the Jeep up and no stalling. Here is link to part we used: http://www.autozone.com/engine-management/fuel-vapor-leak-detection-pump/duralast-fuel-vapor-leak-detection-pump/125190_0_0/?checkfit=true
Thanks for the information Al.

Al - thank you. I ordered my ESM1001 as soon as I saw your post and took pictures today as I installed it. I'm not sure how many pictures I'm allowed to post, so this one is a shot from just under the driver's side rear wheel to show where the part is located.
I have a 2008 Patriot with the same problem, and to add to the problem, now the gas pump shuts off when I try to put gas in the vehicle. I've different flow speeds and several pumps, but still have the same problem. It takes me 15 minutes to fill up at 2/10 of a gallon at a time. Rick
patriot2008owner answered 8 years ago
Turns out I still had problems after replacing the ESM1001 including engine hiccups while driving, complete stalls after fill- ups, and then a check engine light which wouldn't go away. After a smoke test, it was revealed that the O-Ring which connects to it needed to be replaced. I have also experienced the multiple shut-offs while filling up a handful of times, but not all the time. I'm hoping the O-Ring replacement will be a permanent fix. So far, I've gone through 1 fill-up with no problems.
I hear different solutions. All I've been doing is not fill the tank all the way. A month ago, my daughter forgot and filled the tank all the way and it stalled. We let the engine run until its a little below full, the jeep started running again.
I have an 07 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with 169k miles. My son was driving it and called to say that it was stalling on him going down the highway and he would pull over and it would start right back and go again. He also said he was having a hard time putting gas in the tank. I disconnected the hoses from vapor canister under the jeep and used air compressor to blow through all the hoses ,the vapor canister and the solenoid. Put it back together and it ran good and would take gas for about 6 months, no problems. My wife was driving it last week and called to say that it died on her going down the highway and I ask if she had been having trouble putting gas in the tank and she said yes. I crawl back under the jeep to do the same as before and noticed the vapor canister was busted so I replaced it and the solenoid that is mounted on the vapor canister. She called this morning and said she put gas in tank with no problem and it is running fine so far. The vapor canister and solenoid is located under the jeep driver side in front of back axle and is easy to get to.It cost about $100 for both parts from the dealer. Not sure if this is the fix but it's odd that every time we have trouble putting gas in the tank that later it dies going down the road. If it dies again I'll be back.
Never mind the post I put above. Wife just called and said the jeep stalled again. Still takes gas good though. I'll be back.
That is really scary. I gave up trying to figure out how to fix it. Just don't fill the tank all the way.

I have an 07 Jeep Compass. We've owned it for 2 years and had a few issues here and there but not this. Gas light came on so I filled up. Got a few yards from the pump and it stalled. No check engine light or anything came on. Was able to pull into a parking spot. Every time I turn the car on it sputters a bit then runs. After about a minute or two of idling it stalls. Tried letting it idle and revving the engine. Same thing happens. Suggestions for what to do??
Welcome to our family of loyal Jeep owners, we own the same vehicle as you with 2.4L and have learned to live with the issue. The most it has stalled out after filling a nearly empty tank is 4 times. We usually pull over and let it stall in the parking lot of the gas station. good news for us is once it does this it is good till next time you fill up. We have noticed that if you put gas in it when it has 1/2 or 2/3 full it stalls out less times. I even filled it using and 5 gallon fuel tank and it did not stall at all. It may have to do with the velocity of the pump at the gas station and gravity feed affects it less. Good luck and drive safe.
I've had my 08 Patriot for 9 1/2 years. About 6 months ago, it did the same thing as above after filling up. It would also jerk/slow down on the interstate after a fill up until it was about 3/4 full. I put some seafoam in it and that worked for a few months, but it's doing it again. I didn't fill all the way up tonight, and it was fine. Just contributing to the group :-)
My 2014 Cherokee Latitude is doing the same thing. The engine hesitates for a while after I fill up. If I have to stop for a light or stop sign right after filling up, the Jeep dies and a warning light comes on that tells me the car has to be stopped to shift gears. I tried not topping off the tank the other day and it seemed fine. I also made sure to tighten the gas cap a few extra turns. I gassed up this morning, topped off (unfortunately) and tightened the gas cap, but the Jeep still hesitated.
i am so happy i found this thread. every other thread said this stall and slowdown issue was due to the CVT transmission. we just bought the 2008 jeep patriot yesterday. paid in cash. on the way home from dealer, after we filled with gas, it stalled , in the gas station! then it started again and lost speed getting onto the parkway. i shut it off , and restarted it it was fine. scared to drive it now. want to return it . looking to find out my rights. bought it as is.... any information on my rights? thank you!
What we've been doing is not fill the gas all the way. I've already reported it to the NHTSA a couple of years ago but no response. I figure if enough people report this issue, NHTSA will do something.
07JeepCompass I have had this issue about 2 years after looked for a recall and there was, only to find that the model # for my Compass did not fall under the recall. I have done exactly as all others with this issue and did not fill the tank to full to prevent this from happening. I wrote to the NHTSA with the same results. I think we should get a class action going against Chrysler for punitive damages. ( Punitive damages also known as "exemplary damages" are a monetary amount awarded to a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit for the purpose of punishing the defendant, or to deter him from engaging in the same conduct in the future.) Maybe this will get their attention!!!!
Bought at 2009 Jeep Patriot for my daughter. This has happened to her twice so far, both times after filling up. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA......EVERYONE needs to do this. It is dangerous and ridiculous.
I have a 2008 Patriot and am having the same problem of stalling out when filling up with gas. Will try not filling up the tank all the way hope this works for me.
I am so happy I came across this forum as I am always panicking after filling up my tank. Each and every time I do this, I drive off and in less then a mile my car turns off, even to the point that I have been scared to get hit by the cars behind me. I try to pour gas in back street gas stations and now tend to just drive off, then stop, and turn it off myself before it does it on its own for me. I dislike having to go so much to the gas station that is why I fill up but will try the other options provided here. Can't afford right now an extra bill nor car investment. Thanks!
I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that has started doing this in the last 6 - 8 months. I do think that not filling the tank completely and adding gas more frequently rather than when the tank is really low helps. It is ridiculous that they haven’t fixed this after all these years. Sometimes it is not convenient or safe to constantly get gas on a trip or in situations such as a hurricane evacuation. Very disappointing. The 2014 Jeep Cherokees also burn oil at very high rate which will also cause the car to completely shut off while driving. Surprising no fatalities, but highly inconvenient and annoying.
2011 Compass began to continually click-off the nozzle while fueling. Typically I topped off while fueling, but ceased doing so and after several months it takes gas at full speed. Lately the post-fueling stalls began as described by many others above. I am hoping the charcoal canister will dry out over time--does anyone know if this is likely or possible?
same problems here!!!!!
all.... we all need to get together and do a class action suit.... yesterday my daughter and wife were in the gas station and the car stalled and no brakes or steering after filling up and the car almost hit the GAS PUMP!!!! Someone one day is going to get seriously hurt. Lets band together.
Yes it is really scary. Its a good thing your wife and daughter did not get hurt but sooner or later someone will. I wouldn't be surprised if there are unreported incidents related to this problem. I wrote to NHTSA a few years ago and there were no response. How do we begin a class action?
I sent all the info to a lawyer that does this sort of thing for class actions... hopefully they respond?
That's great. Thank you for starting this. Hopefully, we have enough people to join the class action.
put compaints on: odi.nhtsa.dot.gov after 20 complaints they are forced to recall
HERE IS SITE: REPORT THE PROBLEMS FOLKS!!!!! https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/
I'll report it again
Putting a complaint through
I recommend everyone do the same ,this is a serious issue with the car stalling on the road.
I own a 2011 Jeep Patriot with the 2.4L and about 115k miles. I filled my car up today and for the first time I'm experiencing these issues as well. I drove about 3 miles from the gas station where I filled up and I was in traffic. As I began to drive the car was very jerky in the start up and running very roughly through all gears. Does this match up with anyone else is experiencing?
OMG! THANK YOU to whoever started this post! I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot. I'll be driving 70 down the freeway and it's like I just jumped onto the back of a bucking horse! My car is also starting have issues starting. Haven't had the stalling problem yet thank GOD! Im deffinetly going to make a complaint on the website you guys posted.
Hello everyone, I to have had all of these issues with my 2008 jeep patriot and I bought it new.I pointed out this problem soon after purchase to no working solution given. Keep posting that way we don't think we are crazy when the dealers tell us there is nothing wrong
There are more than 20 complaints on this but they have not issued a recall
Hey all. I bought a 2007 Jeep Patriot with the 2.4, I’m the second owner. I put gas in right after test driving it ran fine. I filled up and bam stalled out pulling onto a busy road. I’ve had my mechanic look my vehicle over and he couldn’t figure out what it was. He pulled other codes I have since replaced but this is really scary. I dread gas stations not bc the cost of gas going up but bc I really don’t even feel safe driving off. It jerks and I look at the rpm it drops significantly. I put it in park and turn it off before it dies out then it’s heaitant to start back up but finally does then I have to take off real fast. I take off and it jolts again but after that it’s fine until the next fill up. If I knew jeeps had these issues I never would have bought. Going on over two mo the now and the guy I bought it from claims he’s never had that issue. I’m calling BS. I paid cash for my vehicle with 92000 miles on it and already dropped 1100 bucks into the darn thing
Patriot_Owner_4now answered 6 years ago
Same issue as all of you. 08 Patriot I bough new in 07. Been having the stall after fill up for about 5 tank fulls now. Finally have gotten with the program of only filling to 3/4 and no issue if I do so, but a serious hazard if I fill all the way (stalls soon after 100% of the time). I will look into making a claim with the Highway Safety board, as well as have written to Jeep.
Same issue here. 2007 Jeep Patriot 200.000 kilometers. The thing is now that it is stalling on me once every two weeks and only on a half tank of gas. Engine light goes on and, starts to shake if I start it again like its running on 3 cylinders. I barely make it home. I leave it off for the day and the next morning its running normal but, engine light goes off after the second or third day. This is hopeless. I changed spark plugs, put injection cleaner and fuel line cleaner and still does it.
Stefsofo, Sounds like you face different issues. Get a diagnostic to show the code that explains your engine light.
Similar problems in central CA with a 2004 liberty v-6 that I just purchased. after reading this column I just filed a complaint. I have not worked with this yet to try to remedy the problem. RF
2008 Liberty 4x4 This is exactly to a T the same problem I've been having and it's not safe at all! In rush hour traffic in Houston I have almost been rear ended twice since this started a month ago. I finally figured out it was when I fill up my tank, so I'll stop that. In the mean time, I'm lucky I found this when I did and I'm severely pissed that this has OBVIOUSLY been going on for years based on this forum alone and Jeep hasn't done squat about it!!! Filling out the complaint tonight.
Thanks for the info on this ongoing problem. I too filed a complaint today for the above issue and will complete another one for the transmission I replaced at 100k.
I have a 2010 Jeep Patriot and I’m having the same problem. I got a full tank of gas and it stalled about second into driving away from the gas station and my steering wheel locked, and then after that when i went through a drive thru to get food, it stalled again. They should definitely do a recall on this because it’s very dangerous
I have a 2011 Patriot.. the last 3 times I filled up.. I was at 1/4 tank--filled it up and within 20-30 second of driving, car bucked, stalled and stopped. This is scary and I will be taking it my mechanic.
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot. I've had it for 2 years and it's never given me an issue like this before. My mom used the car today and filled the tank up. Every time I pump gas, I do the same and fill it up all the way. I've never had a problem before personally, but the car stalled at a light after she filled it up. Thankfully it was at a red light and nothing happened, but I don't understand why it's only showing this problem now?
I have a 2008 Jeep Compass 153,000 miles. It's stalled twice on me right after I bought it. Took it back to the dealer, they looked it over and found that I had overfilled it and it filled the evap system. So now whenever I fill up I pull it out as soon as it stops. Hasn't stalled but it has bucked Everytime I fill up. Any idea on what I could to stop it?
I don't fill my tank all the way and it's been good so far.
Here's an update from what I posted 3 weeks ago. I have been filing complaints hoping it gets recalled. I'm going to call a dealership tomorrow to see what they think it could be. I made the mistake of getting a full tank because I had to drive back to school which is almost 4 hours away and it stalled on me 4 times, once when i was driving out of the gas station and 3 more times in a drive thru. It used only stall out once or twice but now it is getting worse.
Here is an update for what my dad told me what a mechanic told him when he asked the mechanic what he thinks it could be. The mechanic said that the sensor that tells when to stop putting in gas (i think that’s what sensor the mechanic said) could be bad. I think I’m gonna call a Jeep dealership when I’m free and see what they say about it
Btw I’m gingy100 (i thought i used my google account)
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot and am SO glad I found this forum. I've had the Jeep for almost 7 years now, purchased used with 1 previous owner who rarely drove it due to being deployed. It's had zero issues, up until about...6 months ago? Same experience as everyone above. I've always filled it up all the way & one time it just decided to jolt around and then die. Sometimes it dies first and then sputters/jolts. Like everyone else, it's verrryyy soon after I pull out of the gas station. Thankfully the shutting off has happened at stop lights every time but 1 time pulling into the bank...steering wheel locks up. That was a fun experience...took it to the mechanic & had $1600 worth of work done; gas/vapor lines replaced, charcoal canister replaced, purge valve replaced, oil change. It definitely was running better but it stalled after I filled my tank, the first time, after getting it back. It's back at the shop & I randomly decided to Google the issue, found this forum, called him & emailed him the info. He's checking the valve on top of the gas tank. I'd rather not spend another 2k + replacing the gas tank...but I guess if that's what makes it reliable to drive then I'll do it. Hopefully he can get me a good deal if that needs to be replaced. Or I could just do what everyone else is doing & not fill it up all the way lol I will post again after he calls me back about his findings & the possible solutions. Thanks everyone!!! I seriously am glad I found this information.
looks like theres an open investigation and since there hahavhahave been no actual injuries they suggest to deny any fixes. NHTSA Action Number: DP17002 Components FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER Opened From: March 29, 2017–Present "In an affected vehicle, several symptomatic telltales are provided to the driver almost immediately after refueling. These symptoms may include, but are not limited to, an engine stumble, rough idle while driving at low speed or a stall at idle or stop. In over 10 years of service with 29,573 vehicles sold and over 4 billion vehicle miles driven, there have been no reported accidents or property damage. FCA US believes that, predicated upon these findings, there is no unreasonable risk to motor safety and the petition for NHTSA to open a formal defect investigation should be denied. "
I have been having the same problem in my 2010 Jeep Compass. Started 6 months or so but after filling up. I don’t any extra fuel in it . Meaning I stop at the 1st clink . Also , I never let my tank go below a quarter of tank . My Jeep stalled a few times when it first started just randomly. One day it really scared me as it happened on the highway. Now it has be stalling and shutting off after I “fill up” . No sooner do I pull away it is starting this. Just had injector replaced due to code . However, it is still happening. The fuel nozzle part has been replaced due to parts inside sticking and it would only take a little fuel at a time . I already had filed a complaint. However, that is not giving me solutions. I’m going to try only putting 3/4 of a tank next time . Thanks for all the different insights.
The Chrysler company says that it's the ethanol in the fuel causing swelling in the plastic of the rollover valve. Even if we replace the tanks, the problem will resurface over time. I'm going to try a basic fuel cleaner to start. See if that frees up the plastic valve. If it doesn't, then I'll probably go ahead and replace the tank. Then I plan to use an ethanol fuel conditioner regularly, to help counteract the negative effects of the ethanol in the fuel.
Guru1XH3S - please keep us up to date on this. Thanks!

Good evening y'all, I've been doing some research and from what I understand is.. The roll over valve goes bad in all jeeps. I don't believe it's because of ethanol gas. I've had plastic gas tanks on a few of my vehicles and they never stopped working. I took the backseat out of my 07 jeep patriot 2.4l to get to gas tank. I removed the fuel pump and sending unit. Trying to get to the roll over valve. I'll post pictures tomorrow morning and updates
Hi there. I've been having the sputtering/stalling issue when I fill up the tank off and on since October 2018, in my 2014 jeep Cherokee. First code was P1DDD. Told to replace fuel pump & canister. Declined, as after driving a couple of miles, the problem is gone. Was distracted by the need to have the transmission replaced in June 2018 (thanks to the class action lawsuit and some negotiating with the CEO of Mopar it was done at FCA's cost). Check engine light came on intermittently 10 days ago, and when I last filled the tank, the sputtering was back. This time code is PO456. Told to replace the canister, but it's cheaper just not to fill the tank (and BTW, I never top off). I see that FCA has a Star Code for this: S1814000002, so they are definitely aware it's a problem. I have just filed a complaint with NHTSA. Am going to approach the lawyers who dealt successfully with the transmission lawsuit...

Good afternoon, i took the fuel pump and sending unit out . Unhooked the gas line from pump. Reinstalled everything and went for gas. I'm able to pump gas into the 07 jeep patriot 2.4l without a problem. Long as i don't fill the tank all the way, I'm fine. Crappy design of gas tank.
Jeep2014MT answered 4 years ago
2014 Cherokee, same thing is happening to me. Very dangerous. I also filled a report to NHTSA.
Tried the fuel cleaner and ethanol conditioner. Didn't fix it :/ still looking for a less expensive solution, rather than replacing the tank. The dealership recommended checking all the vacuum lines and changing the spark plugs before changing the tank. I did, and I've filled it all the way up without it stalling several times now. I guess even though the valve is probably still faulty and will not do its job in the event of a rollover. The new plugs are burning the liquid gas coming out of the canister. Where as the old plugs wouldn't. It's still a safety issue that is an open recall on newer models. Keep filing your complaints, and perhaps the safety recall will be extended to our model years. In the meantime, try checking the vacuum lines and install new plugs. It seems to be a temporary fix, and is a part of regular maintenance anyway. Good luck :)
My wife and I bought a 2008 Patriot and it still only has 65,000 miles on it. We have been fighting this issue of the car bucking and/or stalling within a quarter to half mile from the gas station, immediately after filling it up. It scared the hell out of her when it stalled as she was making a left at a light across oncoming traffic right after putting gas in it once. She will not gas the car up anymore, I do it for her and run it for a couple of miles before letting her drive it to assure no issues for her. I have replaced the vapor canister and the Purge valve twice but that only seems to buy a short reprive, so I started my own research and here is my findings, Hope they help all of you out there. All vehicles have a rollover vent valve in the fuel tank,Rollover vent valves perform two essential functions. Used in conjunction with your vent line, a rollover valve will allow your tank to breathe and not build up pressure or vacuum during normal operation. Remember, as fuel is added to your tank, air in the tank is displaced and has to go somewhere. These valves for whatever reason are going bad due to the ETHENAL in the gas. For some of you it is not opening properly and allowing the tank to be filled normally, Others of us it is not closing soon enough and allows some liquid gas into the vapor canister and then causing the engine to buck and stall. Once the liquid dries in the vapor canister and the vapors can then be purged properly the vehicle runs fine until the next fill up!! I am going to try to find and replace the ROLLOVER VENT VALVE in my wife's Patriot WITHOUT replacing the whole tank and I will let you all know how it goes. Maybe we will finally have a fix and the NHTSA can create a recall for it.
I honestly hope they do a recall and stuff because i’ve done a full tank recently and it didn’t stall out like it usually would if i get a full tank so i thought that it only stalls out if it goes out past the full line. But nope, it stalled out 4 times and the 4th time my car almost didn’t even start and i was at a light and missed the green light because of it and luckily no one was behind me. But it is really annoying when i drive for a second it just stalls. Jeep should do a recall for it because it is dangerous
It's been 6 years since we bought the Jeep. I've already reported it to NHTSA and nothing. It is dangerous. I've been lucky so far as long as I don't fill the tank all the way. If I do by mistake, I let the Jeep run for awhile and then hope for the best when I start driving. Try not to fill it all the way. I leave it a little under the full line.
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot that I bought used and every single time I get gas it jolts and try’s to stall I’m going to try the recommendation to not fill it all the way up and see what happens. I’m so glad I found this forum and people can share their experiences it helps a ton.

I just recently bought a 2009 Jeep Patriot and installed a new fuel pump thinking that would fix the stalling out after filling tank. thanks from this forum I know now what is causing the fuel problem. thanks guys. Linnie
Keep it running at filling up. No Bucking After I Fill Up With Gas.
