64.5 F code
Asked by Carrie May 21, 2016 at 12:45 PM about the 1964 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD
Question type: General
I've just purchased a 64.5 F code in Australia and
apparently when it was imported here in 2009 they
took off the original plate and replaced it with one
that only has the vin # 5F07F166021. How do I find
out the month and other info on it? It has a 260 in it,
auto, Rangoon red with black and white interior

All 64.5s carry a 1965 VIN. Whats makes this even harder is Ford says that the last 64.5 was built 7/31/64 and the 65s started the next day. However research? has turned up 64.5s as late as 8/17. All the Mustang "FANS" know the minors differences 641/2 - 65. Also you can still decode the VIN easily, But as to the day and month of build?. Best call Jay Leno get his research crew on it!
Carrie, The way you tell is the first 2 numbers is the day and month. The reason its a 64.5 mustang is because it was made before the 6 month of the year.
The first two digits of the code represents the day if the month: 01A = 1 January. If the model extends beyond 12 months, a second-year code will be used. The F-code was for June of 64.5! Google 64.5 mustang f-code and this will show you what your looking for! Sorry for the wrong information! I apologize! The best if luck with your mustang!
I've decoded the vin and I know they're all technically 1965. The issue is that the plate does not have the other codes to identify the month. The vin only tells you the year, where it was made, body type, engine code (F code) and the serial number. Thanks, I'll keep looking
