why is my shifter feeling like it’s gonna stop working?

My shifter is pretty stiff when changing gears
as if it’s sticky, do I need to replace it?

Possibly. Or the problem could be with your clutch. If its not disengaging like it should shifting could be difficult. And of course on modern cars there are always electronic components at work which do weird and wonderful things when they don't work, so be sure to do thorough troubleshooting before you start replacing parts. I'd start by scanning the car to see if there are any transmission related trouble codes.
