Question type: Maintenance & Repair
07 cobalt LS 2.2 overheats, replaced thermostat ,
radiator ( twice) drilled 2 holes in thermostat,
replaced head gasket ( coolant in oil , which is when
all this started ) I had a 50/50 ( yea right !! Because
it froze right after I did head gasket) from there on
out it gets 230 at 55 mph and anything above that

Problem found .. after removing the water pump I was amazed that at first appearance nothing was wrong .. wasn’t leaking , making noise , no rattiling , no broken or missing impeller.. I spun the sprocket side and impeller spun .. my heart sank .. then ( for reasons unknown to me still) I stuck my thumb in the impeller and held impeller while I spun the sprocket side.. it held and the shaft was able to spin without the impeller moving .. quite freely.. I put new water pump in and got on 75 nb today for bout 45 miles it never got over 160* .. problem solved !! Something I should’ve mentioned in original post is when I said it froze it got slushy so it wasn’t froze completely solid and that was -5* f out without windchill in northern Michigan.. thanks for the responses and the help !!!
K9tool I think I have the same problem with the 06 colbolt 22 I just bought it starts and I hear like a tapping on the back of the motor all most likely its coming from the headers but all most to the side now the guy I got it off of said that it's running hot and It needs a waterpump I just hope that is all it needs cuz I wasn't sure if it would need a new exhaust system to get it to Quite it up and I was just hoping any one would help me out with what they think
