My car won’t start, can’t pull error codes?

Asked by Raya Apr 11, 2020 at 02:22 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS. I bought it
secondhand two years ago and it’s been
great until two weeks ago when the alternator
went bad. We fixed the alternator and the car
ran great for a week and then totally bricked.
We can’t pull error codes, checked for a short
and and grounds, the battery is fine, but the
car won’t start at all

So it turns over but won't start, right?? If you can't pull error codes there is possibly a blown fuse preventing the code reader from working That happened in my Cobalt. If you are able to read the car with the code reader but there are no codes present then that is a different story. The saved codes may have been lost during the alternator replacement. Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key to the run position without trying to start the car? If not then the car is likely not getting fuel. Investigate the fuel system, which includes the pump and all related fuses, relays etc.
