2007 Impala will not start, shift out of park and key will not come out

Asked by KLI44 Nov 10, 2019 at 02:40 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Impala LTZ FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All  of a sudden my key will not go all the way
back, will not come out, will not shift out of
park and will not start. The dash lights come
on but there is no power to the windows,
locks, overhead lights. Radio does come on.
Tried to get into settings to turn off the
security lock but it says "feature settings
available in park". We have taken the console
off and used the button to move the shifter
but the car will not turn over or click. Charged
the battery and it's fine. Checked all fuses.
Wires to the shifter are not broken or pinched
and connection is good. Headlights & tail
lights work but no brake lights. The shifter
lights show no indication of what gear it is in
not even when it is in park.

I have the same exact problem 100% of the symptoms you mentioned and I'm stuck too. I'm told it could be a brake position sensor, shift interlock solenoid, bad ground, etc but I havent narrowed it down yet. Hopefully responding will bring the thread into the recents and someone who fixed theirs will see it!

Hello all, I did get mine fixed recently. I had to bite the bullet and take it in. Had all of the exact same symptoms listed in this forum. My bcm went bad. It wasnt registering the right signals therefore the car wouldnt start. As long as the shop didn't bs me, it ended up being the bcm. Got a new one, they programmed it to my car, and I havent had a single issue since. If you want to get the key out, take the cover around the back of the steering wheel off as well as the rubber piece by the keys so you can expose the ignition. It's kind of hard to see, but on the backside of where the key goes, theres a tiny goldish button about the size of a pencil eraser. Take a small screwdriver and push the button in while simultaneously turning your key. Should come right out!
