The blinking O/D Off light will not go off. Pushing the O/D button doesn't help either. Help.

Asked by Cherri Apr 14, 2014 at 11:35 AM about the 2007 Ford Escape XLT FWD

Question type: General

The blinking O/D Off light has come on before and I pushed the O/D button on the gear shift and it went out.  Pushing the button does not help now.  I got the manual out and it tells to put in in D for drive but it's always in D anyway.  Please help me as I'm a lady and need to figure this out.  Thank you and have a GREAT day!!

For me it was definitely the wires to the trans. But shade tree mechanics think it's your trans.

To me this problem started when my car entered in a huge pond of water submerging the whole engine. I later changed the inhibitor switch. Which is concerned with gear transmission. The problem went away. However the replaced inhibitor switch didn't last for very long. Now I have replaced it again and though it is new the OD light still blinks, I want to open to see if the installation was done well.

no happy endings yet? undergoing same problem on 2003 escape w/180,000 miles. My trans silently engages and disengages in all gears including R/4wd. Going to attack the Error code 0720 and change the output speed sensor. Wells SU2318 Auto Trans Speed Sensor. http://a.co/chEI5Vo

I had the same problem. My son is a mechanic, after researching on the internet and draining the fluid looking for shards of metal he saw a video. It was about a band on the transmission that breaks. It only costs about $40.00 but it takes a few hours to take off the parts to get to it. No transmission replacement. He saved me a lot of cash.

GuruJHV3, you answer sounds great but: What is this band-part called? Can you post a link to the video you mentioned? Thanks

That is a 2/4 band of a CD4E transmission. Note, you'll be taking off the battery, air filter, two motor mounts, tire, brakes, the cv axle, and the transmission pump (very carefully) to get to that $40 part.

Hey Guys! I just bought an 01 Ford Escape with the 3.0 cd4e. I was driving on a long sort of steep road for about 40 minutes and then the O/D light started to blink. I stopped and started driving down the road and it suddenly turned off. I noticed it happening only twice and both times I was driving for about 30 minutes on a steep road. Could it be that the tranny is overheating? Any help would be really appreciated.

Question: I have a 2005 Ford Escape and the OD/Off light comes on after a few miles and pushing the button does not make it go away. When it comes on it starts missing and acts like it wants to cut off. We just replaced the Throttle Sensor where the check engine light was on. Can anyone please let me know what needs to be checked?

My 2006 Ford Escape had an engine light and od light flashing and the gear transitions were rough. The scan showed it had a problem with the turbine speed sensor input circuit A sensor. The sensor I sourced from eBay and took it to an auto transmission workshop - when they went to install the new sensor they found the problem- it was one of the wires coming out of the harness to the speed sensor had broken. Another search on eBay and a few weeks later the new speed sensor and harness were installed- problem solved.
