2007 ford explorer 4.0 check charging system light comes on randomly

I have a 2007 ford explorer 4.0.  The voltage regulator is built on the alternator.  
check charging system light comes on randomly and it stops charging.  I have
changed alternators and they both tested good.  Does the ecm control the
alternator on this year?

after than just shy of ten years, the battery will stop taking a charge~ get a new battery and you will be just fine~

Looking at the charging system wiring diagrams the ECM does not control the charging system on this year. If it keeps dropping out you must have a wiring or connector issue. These are known to have problems with the connectors at the alternator. If there is any doubt then replace the connectors. Solder and shrink wrap all the repairs.

To the people who took the time to give me suggestions Thank you. They bench tested it and it tested good (as did my charging system) They did warranty the alternator out for me anyway (I just changed it 3 months ago) so we will see. The last one did drop in voltage. I checked that first thing to make sure but only for a minute or two then it would charge again. It did it at various rpms sometimes going 100 miles without a problem sometimes not charging 3 times in a 10 mile commute. Connectors all look good and I clean my posts regularly so hopefully there was just something screwed up in the alternator they gave me. I especially would like to thank the gentlemen who looked up the wire diagram for me. I was very concerned it was a computer issue and I am not good with electrical. I am a girl that knows just enough to get herself into trouble doing her repairs haha. Thanks again

That’s the tricky part, the connectors don’t look bad cause it’s internal. If it stops charging again do a wiggle test on the connectors and harness and if it starts charging again then you have found your problem. This has to be done while it is running so be careful of hot and moving components.
