The explorer uses a 6r60 trans (6speed) the mustang uses 5r55 (5speed) I doubt they will work easy, most of these now are electronic shifting so there may be some wiring differences as well as the ECU programming. The 90's mustangs used the 4r70w I pulled a 95 mustangs trans and used a 2002 trans, that required some re-wiring or I would have had to swap the internal cables in the transmissions. At any rate your better to stay within the same model transmission for ease of swap.
