Carfax or Autocheck won't have any information about your car only because the '79 Mustangs had only an 11 digit serial number. They didn't come out with 17 digit numbers until after 1980. Before then no one kept track of any particulars and neither one of those companies were around back in '79 nor was the internet. Only the Cobra Mustangs had the "Cobra" lettering on the doors and Yes, it was from the factory but again only on the Cobra model. Even if you have the original VIN number it would be next to impossible to find your exact car other than checking with the many Mustang registries out there. You might get lucky finding it since it was probably an original Cobra Mustang which BTW, all had the 5.0 H.O.(High Output) engines not the boss 302. That boss 302 engine was only available in the 1969 and 1970 Mustangs and not in any '79. You are probably thinking of the 5.0L (302 cubic inches) H. O. motor. Kenny/MrBlueOval
