I keep seeing "fuel injected" in some of the articles I'm reading and want to know if that year was in fact fuel injected?

Asked by TerroristDestroyer Apr 04, 2007 at 07:18 AM about the 1985 Ford Mustang GT Coupe RWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

I'm thinking of buying a 1985 Ford Mustang and have done some research but I'm confused on whether or not that year was fuel injected. I've seen some 1985 Mustangs on ebay and in some of the pictures the engine appears to be carburated but with the letters E.F.I on the air cleaner cover, Or is that a throttle body injection system? Can you answer this mystery for me???? Thanks!

The 5.0-liter engine in the Mustang GT didn't get fuel injected until 1986, TD - the '85 version had a Holley 4-barrel carb. The smaller engines in the '85 had a throttle-body fuel injection system, but not the 5.0. And for what it's worth, I believe E.F.I. stands for "electronic fuel injection," TD. Hope that helps!

Dear TerroristDestroyer -- Depending on the engine, the 1985 Ford Mustang cam with different fuel systems- carbureted, central fuel injected (CFI), electronic multi-point fuel injection (EFI)or sequential fuel injection (SEFI). I can see why you might be confused. Good luck from Bovan.

Wheeler dealer needs to hit the books and do his homework, he is sucking wind. I have an '85 Gt cental fuel injected 5.0 H.O. sitting in my drive way. Auto's were C.F.I. T5's were 4bbl.

Yes I owned an 85 GT with fuel injection and auto transmission. It had 211 miles put on it from factory testing. (that note came with the sticker). The transmission had to be replaced at one point because of a factory flaw and it threw a piston that was under sized and corrected. Off the line it was a little slower than the Carbureted version but at a 40 punch it would out run the carbureted version and the 86 fuel injected version.

My '84 would bark the tires in 3rd gear. 14" rims, 4 barrel carburetor with 4 speed. The '85s came out with fuel injection, 15" rims and and 5 speed

1984 mustang 5.0 where can I buy a (CFI) central fuel injection 2bbl original it came with it from factory a complete one

Wheelerdealer . . you are incorrect. The '85 automatic 5.0s were indeed EFI.
