the vin will tell if its a v8 or v6,,,, if vin is v8 then some one put the v6 in it after they blowed the v8

The only way it would be a gt and not have a v8 would be a turbo 4 cylinder. In 1983-84 the made a Mustang TURBO GT. They later did many improvements and made the SVO. I believe the 3.8l in 1984 would only be available in the L model and perhaps the LX also but im not sure on that. But if your car is a GT and it has a v6 its either not the original motor or it isnt a GT.

I worked at Ford Dearborn Assembly where we assembled the Mustang. I have seen thousands of Mustangs in all configurations. Ford NEVER put a V-6 in the GT. Somebody made a mistake on the title.

Apparently the Fox Body days (which is what the 1984 would be), you could by a 4 Cyl turbo GT, or a 6 cylinder GT, if you didn't want the 8 Cyl GT.

my son turned in his title, it said ON THE TITLE, GT Mustang Premium 2 door Coupe transferred it to his name and it came back just mustang 2 door coupe any body know why? this is in florida, just a month ago March 2018

Title doesn't mean crap dude. I just transferred a 67 Plymouth from texas to California. Filled out my paperwork and they just entered what I wrote into the computer

I have same situation. 2001 mustang 3.8L v6. But it has GT emblems. Anyone have any thoughts on this?? Mabey someone blew the original v8 motor and decided to go smaller with new v6 motor? Not sure but I'm interested in any knowledge anyone has.

They did make a few V6 gt a few different years. I live in Detroit so i know everything about cars! Hehe Just because one guy worked in one plant who didn't see them. Just means they either ran em on opposite shift or a different plant all together. I did not believe it till i was proved wrong. Decode the vin and pop the hood pretty sure that was 1998 v6 gt. It could've been 00 or something. But right around there.

They did it a few years its rare except 1998 they made allot. 2017 they make allot too. Before you tell me this or that. I live in Detroit I know cars well i work on them as a hobby. Here in Detroit we get to see cars a few years before they come out. With manufacturer plate and an engineer driving. They usually have leather bras around the whole car. Or a weird black/white checker pattern so you cant really see the body lines and stuff. I've seen all types of weird shit prototype stuff that you cant buy. Not that the v6 gt is a prototype. Just saying i know wtf im talking bout. Dude who said he worked assembly, maybe they made em at a different plant or not on his shift. They break down lines and change assembly between shifts all the time.
