can I put a 302 into a 1968 ford mustang four lug car? Does one have anything to do with the other?

Did this 4-lug car come original with the I6 engine? I believe the I6 came standard with the 4-lug (4x4.5) wheel and all the V8's came standard with the 5-lug (5x4.5) wheels. If you are bumping up to a heavier engine it's prudent to increase the brake and spring sizes, they make 4 lug to 5 lug conversion kits, and it's a smart upgrade. There's also a ton of upgrade guides on I6 to V8 swaps. Good luck and hope this helps.
KenF is right all 64.5-70 mustangs, were 4-lug wheels if you ordered a In-line 6, the 5-lug where put on the V-8 only, You will have to put bigger springs and shocks, and if i were you, i'd put a dics brake conversion kit in it,if it does not have one already, it makes a huge difference in your stopping, and it's about 1500$ but well worth it,my 64.5 stops on a dime...........hope this helps ..
