Flooded engine possibly

Asked by Justin Sep 28, 2018 at 08:23 AM about the 2004 Ford Mustang Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok long story short I drove into a somewhat
flooded area while was still raining pretty badly in
my( 2004 Ford mustang 3.9liter v6 )and when I
noticed that water was too deep I tried to reverse
and the motor shut down well I put in nutral and
pushed back out of the water well unfortunately
car wouldn't start so I checked/removed soaking
wet air filter and car cranked up and white smoke
was coming out exhaust pipe well got to my
buddies house about 2miles away killed motor well
when I returned to car with new filter it wouldn't
start so I figured water in gas well I put (heet) fuel
treatment in and I've even replaced sparkplugs and
still won't start ,it sounds as if it's out of gasany
suggestions on what I should do next ???
I was going to drain oil and change it out in case
water may have gotten in it....

Could be water in the distributor cap . Pull it off and be sure its dry inside. Also , if there was water in your crankcase the dipstick would show "over full" on the indicator. If there is water in the crank case you could just loosen the drain plug a little and the water will come out first since it is heavier than the oil .
