High Temp/ Low Oil Pressure

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V6. Last night was the first time that I was at a stop sign and went to go, and it stalled out and had the battery light on and also the high temp/ low oil pressure light. The gauges however were still reading normal. No signs that this was going to happen. The SUV didn't run rough or anything. It just happened. Then when I get home (6-7 miles away) I check the oil and the level is MAYBE a 1/2 quart low on the dipstick. What could this be? When I checked the dipstick as well, the oil was dripping off the stick. I had an oil change about 1300-1500 miles ago as well.

If the car is running normally after you started it I doubt there is a major problem. You could clean the throttle body and your IACV could be acting up. Oil get a little thinner when it is hot, that could be the reason it was dripping off the stick. Just have a mechanic check it to make sure there is no water in the oil.

I take it to a local mechanic for oil changes and smaller jobs. They just changed my oil about 1500 miles ago or so and they use 5W 30. The vehicle didn't give me any indication it would stall out and have the light come on. It hasn't happened since, but I'm keeping a close eye on it. Once I got the SUV into park, I was turned the key off, which it was already shut off and gave it a minute and turned it back on and it ran fine. I even checked the dipstick and it wasn't very low at all so I didn't know why the light came on. Thank you for your help :-)
