Thermastat

2004 Ford Explorer 4.0 ..helped son replace the
thermastat housing along with sensor and
thermastat. My son called broke down on the
interstate sensor blew out of housing..any ideas
what would have caused this? Was there
something I missed on this simple subject?...any
quick responses would be appreciated. Thx

Did the sensor still have its o-ring? Should also be a clip that keeps it in place. Hopefully your housing isn't cracked or worn where the sensor pops in.
Thermostat housing was likely corroded due to coolant not being changed at the proper interval. Coolant can become corrosive after it has been in an engine too long.
Yes O ring was still on, all parts intact..except sensor being popped out..fresh anti freeze 50/50..taking parts back to Parts store to be replaced this morning..really surprised me that would happen..thanks for input
