4.0L engine from a 2004 Explorer into a 2005 4.0L 2005 Ranger

Asked by GuruXG98D Nov 29, 2018 at 02:09 PM about the 2004 Ford Explorer XLT V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The interchange is showing a difference 2004 to 2005.  What is the difference and can something be changed or swapped to make the 2004 work in the 2005?    Both are "e" vin engines.  Thanks for your help!

Check the net and you will see the changes. During the lifetime of the 4.0 SOHC engine, the motor has gone through more than a half dozen engine revisions to it's configurations. Engine parts from one years revision will not work in a subsequent.
