Your original engine was a 4.0 SOHC. A 4.6 OHC V8 was also available. Those were the only two engines offered. The 4.0 SOHC engine entered service in 1999 where it was offered with the old style 4.0 pushrod engine. The 4.o SOHC has been around for many years. If you thinking of purchasing a used engine, do a little checking and determine if the electronics for your vehicle are compatible with the engine you are getting. There is probably no difficulty.
