03 Tahoe repair

I have a leak left of my water pump. Recently
replaced one of my belts (the short one). Next day
had a water leak. Mechanic tells me it's the water
pump but after inspection, looks like very near the
thermostat. Even the housing is cleaned off like it's
been steam cleaned right by the hose connection.
It drips constantly when running and stops after
five minutes or so after the vehicle is off. I refill the
reservoir every other day. Mechanic quotes $437
to replace pump and thermostat both. Thoughts?

Get a good look at it, if is the thermostat housing gasket, That is a fairly easy repair even for a novice. The water pump should be far enough away to make an accurate decision, Your mechanic may not have investigated fully or may have?
