Service engine soon light

I just bought a 2002 Chevy Tahoe about a month ago a d
today the service engine soon light came on. I checked my
oil and fluids, and the engine is quiet and running smoothly.
What could this mean?

There's a problem in the Emission system, you need to get it hooked to a scanner to see where the problem is. Many parts stores will do this for free. When you find out what the code is repost here to find out what to do next. Take care.
