Have a ticking noise coming from the front of my 2006 Chevy trailblazer and not sure what it could be

Asked by Shauntei Jun 07, 2018 at 05:32 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer that is making a
ticking noise it was light but the more I drive it it's
getting louder. I have no engine light or anything on
so I'm not sure what this could be. I don't want a
costly expense so looking for some help. I had the
lifters replaced 6 months ago and just had an oil
change done over the weekend. What could this
noise be and what do I need to do to fix it?

First try adding some Lucas Engine Oil Stabilizer to oil had a little tap from my vehicle put that in and the tap went away no guarantee but it is worth a try.

To rule the motor out, use a stethoscope and listen to the fan clutch. Our fan clutches suck, even a brand new one out of the box will tick until you get one that doesn't. If you've narrowed it down to fan clutch, get a new one with a lifetime warranty. Have done mine twice already in both TB's. Very common to tick

Next to your intake on the drivers side of the engine is an aluminum heat sink with several plugs going into the bottom of it. You can’t miss it. It is standing straight up. The ticking is most likely coming from this as it is just retained by plastic clips. Use some zip ties or whatever is handy to tighten it up in its retainer.

Pull your belt off and start it if it’s gone then check the idler pulley for play if it’s ok check all the other pulley
