Rough idle when in gear at a stop 2006 Chevy trailblazer
Asked by Blueeyesmisty Jul 15, 2018 at 04:32 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
When 2006 Chevy trailblazer is in gear and at a stop
the car idles very rough if AC is on it’s even worse.
Have already cleaned throttle body, changed plugs,
coil packs are fine. Has 3 codes it pulls, coolant
thermostats, evap small leak, evap running to lean,
and o2 sensor bank 2. None of which is cause of
idle issue. Idle so bad it rattles my front bumper and
hood. Driving me crazy. Nobody knows what it is
and have seen many Chevy trailblazer owners with
same problem. Has anyone found what the cause
is??? My trailblazer has 172,000 miles on it but is
very well taken care of. Did replace the fuel pump
since the sending unit went out. (Another issue
Chevy wouldn’t recall and many owners have this
problem). I love my Chevy but so tired of not being
able to find source of issue.

If I place car in park or neutral the rough idle calms down but is there slightly
Idles bad in gear at a stop and calms down in park in neutral, is going to be bad motor mounts. I've done 2 sets of these, one in my neighbors 04' TB it felt like it was missing 2 cylinders, the vibration was so bad, and another in my own 06'. Both were idling very smooth, like brand new after new ones were installed. Make sure to buy AC Delco brand motor mounts, others will crush too much, leaving you with same problem, feeling like bad idle. Our motor mounts are hydraulic, so you can't really tell if their bad by looking at them, unless they're leaking. My bet is these, as it's a very common problem on our platform.

I hope this works. Looking at price of those mounts they aren’t a small price lol. But I am trying to make sure I get a full life out of my TB. I bought it with 52,000 miles on it and now have 173,000. I keep up on maintenance and repairs but they seem to be hitting me back to back now :-/
I have a 2006 Chevy trailblazer and I have the same problem .

I got mine fixed found that one of my motor mounts cracked at the top and all the hydraulic fluid leaked out. So I would recommend replacing your motor mounts I found mine on eBay for cheap.
I would proberly check My fuel filters aswell

As far as I am aware there isn't a fuel filter on Trail Blazers I was told there was just a screen in the gas tank

The fuel pump had already been replaced, the sending unit had went out. But it had turned out to be the motor mounts. Not that it matters now after I did all the work on the car it got totaled in a accident. Some idiot pulled across two lanes right in front of me. I was issued credit for all the repairs I did to it though.
Replace idle air control valve
My problem was a spark plug. Problem went away instantly.
BTW, wanted to point out with trailblazers/Rainier/Envoy based on one of the posts above....all trailblazers, for example, have an inline fuel filter that is mounted inside the frame rail on the drivers side of the car. It is about halfway back close to right under the rear drivers side door and seat inside. I have owned 2 trailblazers since 2005 and have put over 200k between them and never taken them to a shop! Knock on wood. Have always been able to fix what went wrong. Anyway, I have replaced this fuel filter maybe 5 times so of course I am sure it exists. If you run your car to empty alot they can get clogged and cause problems. Have had success with fuel system cleaner also since they can be a bitch to change on certain models.(LTZs were so well built they had almost he entire bottom of the car covered with a hard plastic shield that must be removed for example) Anyway, hope that helps.
