2005 Subaru outback sedan 2.5L sputters when I accelerate

My car sputters when I accelerate
going 45mph at 2000rpm. What is
causing this? Timing belt or gaskets?

Maybe it needs a tune up. The timing belt can fail but then it would not run at all.
