why am i overcharging with new alternator 16 to 17 volts

replaced bad alternator with rebuilt from advance auto. it is now over charging
and causing transmission issue. was told due to built in regulator coinciding
with external regulator.????

16 to 17 volts is overcharging and it needs to be repaired. Get the correct alternator for the car and you may have to go to the local Mazda dealer to get the proper alternator. Keep charging at 17 volts and you will ruin the battery.
Your car has an external regulator. You need an alternator that is externally regulated.

thank you for your responses, turns out they sold me a bad alternator, replaced it with identical alternator and it's working fine now, I am now an expert in removing and installing alternators in mazda proteges now after doing it 4 times in 3 days......thank you again and happy holidays to you and your familys.
