horn not working

Asked by tjorg Nov 29, 2007 at 12:28 PM about the 2005 Hyundai Elantra GLS Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have checked all the fuses.  When I press the horn all you can hear is a clicking sound.  What might the problem be?  Thanks

Sounds like either the horn relay or the horn itself. You will need to get ahold of a wiring diagram to show you where the horn and horn relay are; usually the horn is in front near the radiator or under/around a fender.

The clicking sound indicates the horn relay working. 90% of the time it is the horn that gives up. An easy way to test this is using a testlight. Access the connector for the horn. Clip the testlight on the negative of the battery and the other end on the pin of the connector. Now press on the horn on the steering wheel. The light should light up in the testlight. This indicates that the wires and relay are ok, thus telling you that the horn is defective.
