Oil pan and timimh

Asked by GuruZM3M2 Dec 04, 2017 at 03:11 PM about the 2008 Buick Enclave CXL AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told to repair an Oil pan leak to
include timing on a 2008 Buick Enclave cxl
would cost 2500. Wow,  I 'm having no
leaks. Only light is service traction control
light. Why is this so expensive.  My vehicle
drives great. I  have 118k miles. I don't
want to get rid of it, unless I know I'll
continue to have more issues.

I suspect the shop is suggesting/recommending that you should replace the timing chain on the 3.6 V6 because of what has to be removed to fix the leak. I saw somewhere that just the timing chain parts cost $900 from GM. Why so expensive, the 3.6 is a dual overhead cam engine and there are 3 chains, sprockets, wear compensators etc. Time to decide if you want to put $2,500 into that car or use the money to trade up.
