It's like a traction control for keeping the vehicle stable in turns, etc.
I was wondering if you are asking this question in relation to the 2008 lancer or just a general question. In relation to a fwd it is just like daniel said. It all relies on the ABS system to work. Many cars boast EBD- (electronic brake force distribution) which simply relies on abs sensors to apply abs to any wheel that is locked or spinning. This is also the way that traction control works on some vehicles. The way it works on some domestic vehicles is that it actually cuts the throttle input also. You can drop the gas pedal to the floor and nothing happens. The Abs kicks in and throttle input is taken over by the ECM/BCM/PCM. (technical terms for a computer that controls the engine and transmission and possibly your door locks etc. ) engine control module- ECM usually for a manual transmission. PCM -powertrain control module, automatic transmissions that are controlled by one computer for the engine and trans. BCM-controls your headlights and possibly stereo, door locks-anything related to the body. These are older systems, Now you have CAN-BUS. (Newer vehicles all use this) It's been around for many years. This is helpful for owners of say a 2008 lancer. eg. The speedometer and tach that you look at is one computer module. It talks to your stereo and to many other computers built into your car. This is why if you remove the factory stereo you get check engine lights or display error codes. look at it this way- You know what "USB" is. You know what happens when you unplug your I-pod without shutting it down right? It's the same deal with your new car. only it's hard or impossible to tell it you are removing the stereo. I think I replied to your question about bluetooth?. You have to purchase the bluetooth module from the dealership. Then they have to hook up the scanner and reprogram the car to recognize that it has bluetooth. ( YOU EVEN NEED TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER IF YOU INSTALL FACTORY FOGLIGHTS!! ) I couldn't believe it myself. I hope this helps even if it's off topic. If anyone can benefit from this I'm happy. peace!!!
