what about the coolant leaking plastic piping?

Asked by GuruCV17R Feb 12, 2019 at 11:35 PM about the 2008 Porsche Cayenne S AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Cayenne had the coolant leak code, was told it's the thermostat.
When taken to the repair shop I was told about the mistake that Porsche
made by putting plastic tubing into the cooling system and they leak around
60K to 80K miles. It is best to replace the whole system with aluminum parts.
Porsche makes a kit for this problem. Cost about $2500. no recall.
Why no recall?

It wasn't a safety issue, just a bad design. Still love the car, it drives so well.

Cayenne 2003-2007 had issues with the coolant hoses leaking. Cayenne 2007-2010 not as much with the updated stronger coolant hoses

I have Cayenne 2013 and it had exact same issue.plastc tubing leaked and engine light came on. It was replaced by aluminium parts. Now, I smell coolant and engine fan kicks in for a minute or so, after I pull in the garage. Hopefully, all of it is normal. I never smelled coolant or had engine fan kick in before this service was done.

If you smell coolant there is a probably a leak. Have it checked out.

I had it checked out and they found no leak. It looks like coolant from last leak was not removed. They said, they will water wash it to get rid of residue. what a pain though!
