BMW x5 part interchangeability
Asked by Barry Feb 27, 2023 at 12:47 PM about the 2003 BMW X5 4.4i AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Are parts for a 2002 BMW x5 3.0i and a 2003 BMW x5 4.4i interchangeable? I
know the engine and transmission aren't, but what about many things like
mirrors, window actuators, A/C etc? Thanks, Barry

Yes, pretty much all of the body and chassis parts are the same, with some exceptions. Stuff like the mirrors, window regulators, etc. are the same.
I have the 03 4.4i with only 146,000 on it, but little things are beginning to fail. I can buy the 02 3.0i for $1,000 and strip everything I might need. I'll have my mechanic assess the engine and transmission to see if it's worth trying to sell them. Thanks again, Barry

There should be plenty of useful parts for you on that '02, so if you need a bunch of parts to have on hand, it would be worth it. You should be able to make your money back just on the engine, transmission, and cats.
A followup to the previous questions. I did buy the 02 BMWx5. Having sat on a dealer's lot for over 3 years it didn't look good, but closer examination showed not a dent or scratch anywhere on the body. All electronics worked including the radio and the sunroof. Documentation in the car showed it as being a one owner prior to the dealer. The capper was when I realized it was a 5 speed. Apparently there weren't many of them made and the blogs I read said if it runs, buy it. Does anybody have any information or thoughts about an 02, 5 speed BMWx5. Thanks, Barry

Nice find! They're pretty rare. I'd love to have a manual X5.
I lost track of this thread and just found it again. If I can find the right Jensen Healey, I'll be in the market to sell it and I'll be in touch. Got a Jensen Healey to trade!!! Thanks, Barry
